You Can’t Multiply Wealth by Dividing It

We may have all seen this passage in our email and I was going to add it to my inspirationAdrian_Rogers1_thmb quotes page.  Before I did that, I decided to find out who is Dr. Adrian Rogers (1931-2005).   A quick Google search and I found a web site dedicated him.   Oh my, I had no idea.  He was the Senior Pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennesee, three time President of the Southern Baptist Convention, author of many books, consulted and prayed with five presidents, founder of Love Worth Finding Ministries, many honors and more.  Well, we already knew that the person that wrote this was very wise.

The passage that is really speaking to us at this time came from his book Ten Secrets for a Successful Family:  A Perfect 10 for Homes that Win, published in 1996.   You can find it on page 138:

“Let me say a word here that may sound political.  I hope not, because I believe it’s moral and biblical.  You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the industrious out of it.  You don’t multiply wealth by dividing it.  Government cannot give anything to anybody that it doesn’t first take from somebody else.

Whenever somebody receives something without working for it, somebody else has to work for it without receiving.  The worst thing that can happen to a nation is for half of the people to get the idea they don’t have to work because somebody else will work for them, and the other half to get the idea that it does no good to work because they don’t get to enjoy the fruit of their labor.””

We really need everyone in our country to read and understand this and take it to heart.  That would be a huge shift for our country, which we need.

    A quote from Abraham Lincoln:

“Property is the fruit of labor…property is desirable…is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.”

Lincoln had it right many times.
