Although, health care insurance reform bills have passed in both the House and the Senate, it ain’t over yet!
The normal course of events would be a conference committee with appointed members to work on resolving the differences between the two bills, then a vote in both chambers to pass. Of course, normal doesn’t exist any longer. We now live in a very strange world of hope and change.
The easiest path to get this legislation passed is ping-pong—sending the bill back and forth between the two chambers. This basically eliminates any GOP influence or ability to stop it. The House will take the Senate bill, make their amendments and vote. Once it passes the House, it goes back to the Senate for the last vote.
Since the initial votes were so narrow, there is a chance to defeat this bill. Below is the action request from the National Tea Party:
Dear Fellow Tea Party Patriots,
We still have a chance to defeat ObamaCare. We need to target the House members that voted for the Stupak Amendment. We feel that the Congressmen and Congresswomen listed below are particularly susceptible to changing their vote.
The Senate version does not include the Stupak language and it is highly likely that the Senate version will prevail in negotiations. Some House members had refused to vote for the Pelosi health care bill until the Stupak amendment was added.
We feel that this is a “weakness” that can be exploited in order to defeat this bill and prevent government take over of our health care system.
Please contact the following House members and ask them to vote “no” on the healthcare bill. The bill passed the House with a razor thin margin of 220-215.
