Seems to me that the President is sending mixed signals or is amnesty in his overall plan? He told the joint session of congress (9/9/9) that illegal immigrants will not be covered under his health care plan–which caused the “You lie” controversy. When President Obama spoke Wednesday evening to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, he wants amnesty instead:
“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken. That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else. If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all. That’s what I said from the start — that’s what I say tonight.”
He didn’t say the word amnesty, just implied it, same difference all the same. Amnesty, once and for all. Haven’t we heard that before?
What he just did was connect comprehensive immigration reform to the health care debate. In his reasoning, the health care debate necessitates that we grant amnesty to those that broke the law to come to this country. I don’t see the connection, do you?
